It’s pumpkin season and if you’re wondering what to do with that Halloween Jack o’ Lantern after carving it for decorating your doorstep, you might consider using it to pump up your fall beauty routine. Pumpkins are rich in alpha-hydroxy acids (a great exfoliator), full of antioxidants, beta-carotene, vitamins A and C, loaded with anti-inflammatory benefits, and even boast of natural UV protectors – making it the perfect skin care ingredient!
Here are some DIY suggestions from your skin care experts at Terranova that are sure to get you beautiful from head to toe:
- DIY Pumpkin Hair Mask – Fall can make our tresses extra dry. We suggest using this recipe to make hair extra shiny and soft.
½ cup pureed pumpkin
¼ cup of natural plain yogurt
2 tablespoons of honey
Combine the ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. First shampoo hair with a gentle moisturizing shampoo like Terranova’s Aire Body Wash with Softening Orchid, which has a gentle pH balance, shea and panthenol. Then apply the pumpkin mask through your entire hair (all the way from the roots to your tips.) Put on a shower cap and leave on for about 30 minutes (we suggest sitting under a dryer to open up hair follicles and allow the mask to penetrate). Rinse off well with lukewarm water. Style as usual.
- DIY Pumpkin Body Scrub – Renew and hydrate your skin with this easy to make exfoliating scrub!
¼ cup cooked pureed pumpkin
¼ cup brown sugar
Combine the ingredients in a small bowl. Apply the mixture to your body using circular motions and wash off with warm water. Follow up with a skin nourishing, lightweight body oil like Terranova’s Skin Smoothing Bath & Body Oils.
- DIY Pumpkin Pedicure – Keep feet super soft and smooth with this easy home pedicure!
½ cup pureed pumpkin
½ tsp honey
Combine all the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Apply the pumpkin mixture to your feet and calves. Wrap your feet in plastic bags. Leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Follow up by applying an intense moisturizing cream like Terranova’s Remedy Creams to your feet and put on a pair of your favorite socks before you go to bed at night for extra hydration.
