The Beauty of Joshua Tree National Park

TerraNova celebrates Earth Month & Earth Day with the National Parks Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. Through critical conservation and preservation efforts, the National Parks Foundation protects over 84 million acres of national parks containing plant life that are represented in many TerraNova products that have helped our customers look and feel their best for over 45 years!

Joshua Tree National Park

An ingredient that TerraNova pioneered the use of in our natural skin care formulations, jojoba, is a large shrub that can grown up to 15 feet in height and is typically found in the southwestern  region of the United States in rugged terrains like Joshua Tree National Park in southern California.  Jojoba oil, which is extensively used in the cosmetic industry, is actually a liquid wax distilled from the seeds of the jojoba plant.1

During the 70s, when TerraNova was originally known as The Body Shop Store in Berkeley, CA, our founder, Jane Saunders, purchased jojoba directly from the Chief of a Southwestern Indian reservation.  This was, obviously, way before jojoba could be purchased in bulk from suppliers and became the staple in natural skin care that it is today!

While it helps your skin in many ways, jojoba oil’s most prominent benefits are:

Joshua Tree National Park – Jojoba Shrub

  • Treatment of Acne – Many moisturizers and skin creams contain animal-based fats, such as lanolin, which can weigh down your skin down and clog pores.  This can, sometimes, contribute to severe acne problems. Because of its non-greasy texture, light weight, and anti-inflammatory properties ; jojoba oil is an ideal ingredient to use for treating acne-related skin problems.
  • Moisturizing Skin – As a natural emollient, jojoba oil absorbs easily and readily into your skin, making it a gentle, skin-softening moisturizer for all skin types.  It makes for an excellent base for massage oil , skin creams, and moisturizers due to its lack of odors and impurities, as well as the fact that it doesn’t go rancid like other base oils.
  • Treats Skin Infections – Because of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial  properties, jojoba oil provides a treatment for various other skin infections including psoriasis, chapped skin, sunburn and eczema.1

Jojoba oil can be found in a variety of TerraNova’s natural bath & body skin care solutions. During the month of April, experience the amazing benefits of jojoba for yourself while “greening” your beauty routine with TerraNova.  $1 of every product purchased will be donated to the National Parks Foundation to preserve natural resources, like jojoba, for generations to come!
