We all seem to know someone who has been touched by breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society it is estimated that in 2017 among U.S. women there will be:
- 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer
- 40,610 breast cancer deaths
Recommendations on mammograms have changed over the years. Woman can learn more from their doctor regarding the best choices for them. And breast cancer can affect men too!
Of course we are not doctors, so the best we can do is to support Breast Cancer Awareness. We have two organizations that we choose for our support. You can check out http://www.charitynavigator.com to learn more about these an other national organizations.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation offers a huge amount of material on their site about the disease, diagnosis and treatment. They also offer a mammography program for women who do not have health insurance or cannot afford a mammogram.
We also love our local Women’s Cancer Resource Center, which provides offerings for women with cancer to improve their quality of life through education, supportive services, and practical assistance.
Most importantly, urge the women in your life to learn how to help prevent this terrible disease.
